Will rising energy costs rein in the hitherto unstoppable growth of light pollution?

Rising energy costs will make it less economically desirable to attempt to illuminate the orbit of Mars. Do you think we'll just switch to more efficient lighting and continue to waste more and more light, or do you think things will level off in the next decade or two?
