What is the world coming to?!!?

I was watching the news today and was horrified by the Illinois shootings. I look online for more info, and instead of finding anything about that, my home page is blaring "HANNAH MONTANA CONTROVERSY," because apparently Miley Cyrus's not wearing a seatbelt is more important than 18 innocent people being shot. Same goes for the war in Iraq, and other crucial world events - we took a survey in our school, and over 90% of students were able to give Britney Spears's life story, yet only about 10% of them even knew who Donald Rumsfield IS, let alone what he's done. To further: a girl in my history cl last year received credit for a test question about Illinois senators by answering: Morroco Bama. (FYI, she thinks the country is called Barack.) What is happening to the world today? Don't tell me any of the "teen" stuff, because I'm 15 and I have a very good idea of what's happening in the world today. Is this just in the US, or around the world? Thoughts?
