Question about the plot in Red Faction II?

i know im a n00b but i was just wondering if someone could enlighten me as to why the EDF was completely left out of red faction 2. I understand that they were with the commonwealth and all but i didnt remember them being mentioned all that much. I mean they played a sort of BIG part in rf and rf:g. maybe im just dumb? someone help me out here?
